The Bathurst Street Skin Cancer Clinic is  at 71 Bathurst Street in Central Hobart.

Our Skin Cancer Doctors are Dr Delfin Sansom, Dr Dora von Conrady, Dr Anand Pemmulu, Dr Stacey Carlton and Dr Karl Haddadin. Our team has years of experience in skin cancer medicine and our practitioners are trained in the prevention, early detection and treatment of skin cancer. 

Bathurst Street Skin Cancer Clinic offers full skin checks, skin spot reviews, non-surgical and surgical treatments of skin cancer. 

The standard fee for a skin check is $195.00 for a 30-minute skin check.

Preparing for your skin check

In order to allow your doctor to be able to do a thorough assessment of your skin, please keep these tips in mind.

• Avoid wearing makeup, particularly concealer or foundation

• Avoid acrylic or painted nails

• Avoid the recent application of tanning products

• Wear comfortable clothing

It is important that you feel comfortable during your skin check. You can keep your underwear on if you prefer, but please alert your doctor if there are any moles or spots that you know of that are covered by your underwear. 

At Bathurst Street Skin Cancer Clinic, clinicians screen patients using 'Fotofinder' technology which is provides mole-mapping, dermoscopy and mole analysis technology, allowing comparison and follow-up of high quality images. 

Approximately two in three Australians will develop a skin cancer by age 70. In Australia, skin cancer accounts for around 80% of all newly diagnosed cancers.

The majority of skin cancers identified are basal cell carcinoma or squamous cell carcinoma – these skin cancers are referred to as non-melanoma skin cancers. Melanoma only accounts for 2% of all skin cancers but causes 75% of skin cancer deaths.

In Tasmania, melanoma is the third most common cancer in women and fourth most common cancer in men. We sadly lose 30-50 people in Tasmania each year to melanoma.

The majority of skin cancer is linked to cumulative sun exposure or sunburn episodes. In Tasmania our ultraviolet radiation level is often high or extreme and it is not uncommon to have significant sun damage in early adult life.

 A skin lesion that is obviously changing or has developed symptoms should be reviewed by a doctor and we have appointments available to access care in a timely manner. These are called Spot Check appointments. 

If diagnosed and treated early, both non-melanoma skin cancer and melanoma skin cancer is nearly 100% curable. Depending on the type and stage of skin cancer many treatment options exist. Some skin cancers are treatable with non-surgical methods including cryotherapy (application of liquid nitrogen), medical cream treatments or photodynamic therapy (a type of medical light therapy).

For detected skin cancers that do require surgical treatment, the vast majority can be safely performed in our on site day clinic.
